Prayer is the most powerful tool we can use.
Why prayer?
God tells us in the Bible that he listens to our prayers and will give us what we ask if it conforms to his will. He tells us we should be, “praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints” (Ephesians 6:18). We are to pray for all of the saints (believers), and that includes Christian refugees.
How do we pray for them?
We can go to Scripture to learn how to pray. 1 Timothy 2:1 says, “I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people.” This means we should pray for all refugees: for old people and young people, married couples and single moms, lonely adults and small children. Pray for the people and organizations that reach out and help them, often with food, medical care, water, paperwork, education, and so much more. Pray for City of Refuge, and pray for the churches that partner with us to sponsor refugees.
We also need to pray for the enemies of refugees. Yes, even the people who persecute these brothers and sisters in Christ need our prayers. “But I say to you who hear, ‘Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you'” (Luke 6:27-28). May our God send his Spirit to those who persecute his children, convict them of their evil ways, and bring them to a saving knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!
Your prayers are so important! Please continue to pray and encourage your family, friends, and churches to include refugees in their prayers as well.
